New Educator Spotlight: Sasha Hoxie

Every week, we will be featuring one of our new LPS educators to get to know a little more about them and why they chose to be an educator. This week's New Educator Spotlight is Sasha Hoxie, social studies teacher at Lincoln Southeast High School.

Building/Department: Lincoln Southeast

Teaching Assignment/Role: Social Studies

Why did you want to become an educator?

I spent my childhood watching my mom teach dance and always knew that I wanted to be a teacher of some kind. In college, I became super passionate about social studies specifically because of how relevant it is to our everyday lives.

What has been your favorite part of working for Lincoln Public Schools?

I love how supportive Southeast has been to students in their extracurricular activities. Coaching cheer has given me the opportunity to see a lot of my students in their extracurricular activities. They are all amazing humans who do amazing things!

Did you attend Lincoln Public Schools as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?

I have been an LPS student since kindergarten, attending Maxey Elementary, Lux Middle School, and Lincoln East. I'm a very proud LPS grad!

Where did you attend college?

University of Nebraska- Lincoln

What is your favorite part of being an educator?

I have truly appreciated when students are willing to have open and honest conversations with me, whether it be about coursework or not. Social studies classes are full of real-world questions that don't have easy answers, but I strive to create a classroom environment where students feel comfortable exploring their opinions.

Describe a time that you knew you made a difference for a student or group of students.

It is super fulfilling when I see students sharing their knowledge from class in the real world. It's been awesome to see so many of my Government and Politics students registering to vote, exercising their right to vote, or becoming politically active in our community!

What is a fun fact about you?

I teach dance outside of school and love doing the NYTimes Mini Crossword. One time I completed it in 7 seconds!
